Karooooo (KARO) Analyst Ratings
Bulls say
Karooooo is supported by a differentiated, vertically integrated telematics platform that has driven market share gains over the last two decades, while low penetration across emerging markets and 23-country operations leaves room for continued subscriber expansion. 1Q27 showed the model’s strength, with revenue up 22.5% Y/Y to R1,564mm, adjusted EBITDA of R642mm at a 41.1% margin, and record net new subscriber additions of 142,472, up 69.6% Y/Y, led by Tag and strong South Africa cross-sell. Management’s FY27 guidance for Cartrack subscription revenue of R5,700-R6,000mm, or 18%-24% growth, alongside expected 15%+ FCF margins and improving operating leverage, underpins the positive outlook.
Bears say
Karooooo is facing a weak fundamental setup because competitive risks and pricing degradation could push subscription growth below 17%, which would pressure valuation multiples and lower overall estimates. Macro turmoil in 1Q, along with currency fluctuations and emerging-market slowdown risk, adds further uncertainty to subscriber growth and profitability, especially since the company charges in local currencies but reports back to ZAR while holding cash reserves in USD. With less upside to subscriber growth than prior quarters and ongoing foreign-exchange exposure, the business appears vulnerable to margin pressure and multiple compression.
